Appeals, Expungements, and other Post-Conviction Relief
Mr. Duree began his legal career as an appellate attorney in the Office of the Attorney General. He has continued to handle post-conviction work through his years in private practice.
In 2008 he had the honor of appearing before the United States
Supreme Court in Fry v. Plier, 551 U.S. 112 (2007). He has appeared in state and
federal appellate courts throughout the state, recently winning a significant
victory in the Ninth Circuit (United States v. McFall, 558 F.3d 951 (9th Cir.
2007). He
has also appeared twice before the California Supreme Court and has been lead
counsel in well over a dozen published appellate decisions.
Our office handles all manner of post-conviction remedies, including new trial
motions, appeals, motions to vacate, habeas corpus proceedings, and set aside
motions (or “expungements”). We generally handle these matters on a “flat fee”
basis, but will also work on an hourly basis; usually we allow the client to
choose the fee method, but in either case we generally require a substantial
initial retainer before substituting into the case.
